BackupEDGE 3.0 Amazon S3 and SCO / UnXis OpenServer 5 Note
Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) relies on secure key authentication to communicate with BackupEDGE.
For secure key authentication to function, the system time clock must always be accurate to within a few seconds.
Under RecoverEDGE disaster recovery, this may not always be the case, especially in a virtualized environment.
As a workaround, you may simply set the system time properly in the BIOS before booting the RecoverEDGE media.
As a more reliable solution, BackupEDGE 03.00.03 build 4 and later embed the "date" and "ntpdate" commands on the RecoverEDGE media, and attempt to automatically adjust the system time whenever networking is enabled. If this should fail, the date command may be run from the utility menu shell, using the format:
date -t YYMMDDhhmm
for example, 1111072330 would be 2011-November-07 at 11:30pm.
New Installs with 03.00.03 build 4 and later
The date and ntpdate commands will be added automatically when you make RecoverEDGE media.
Upgrade installs from 03.00.03 build 3 and earlier to 03.00.03 build 4 and later.
Immediately after updating from an earlier 03.00.0x release you must edit /usr/lib/edge/recover2/NETFILES and add the following two lines:
./bin/date ./etc/ntpdate
Then make new RecoverEDGE media. CDROM images and media are highly recommended over floppy media. Networking should always be enabled as the first task after booting RecoverEDGE media.
