This is where the Reloading process begins. The Aliquippa Little Quips are the local entry into the Beaver County Youth Football League. This league is broken into 4 divisions, Twerp, Termite, Mitey-Mite, and Midget. Once a player has progressed through all four stages, hopefully he will be ready to compete at the Jr. High level.
The youngest division is the Twerp division, this consists of players who are 6 and 7 years old. This age group requires a coach who is totally dedicated and loves what he does. We, in Aliquippa are fortunate to have such a man. Mark Walker, the head coach of the Aliquippa Twerps is the first teacher of football these children have. This is truly a test of his patience and a testament of love for the community.
The next level is the Termite division, this consists of players in the 8 and 9 year old age group. The Termites are coached this year by 1961 graduate of Aliquippa High School, Jethro McCoy. Jethro and his staff work to reinforce the fundamentals that were laid down at the twerp level. Remember, these are 8 & 9 year old boys, they need constant reminders of the fundamentals while still trying to teach new skills.
The third level is the Mitey-Mite level. This is where the real education starts. Boys in this level are 10 & 11 years old, usually the kids are bigger and begin to hit harder at this age. Rod Jeter is the head coach of this team, Rod is assisted by defensive coach Rick Hill. The Aliquippa Mitey-Mites were the 1998 & 2000 Beaver County Youth Football League Runners Up.
Finally, at the top of the age & weight class is the Midget division. This division consists of boys 12 & 13 years old. These boys are on the threshold of becoming young men. This is where the game advances for these players. They are introduced to new terminology, defenses, offenses, and techniques. The Aliquippa Midgets are coached by Mike Henry and Offensive Coordinator Ed Dawkins. This team is an annual playoff contender and should provide the Varsity with some fine players in the years to come.
As with any non-profit organization, the Aliquippa Little Quips struggle annually to make ends meet. Equipment & Insurance costs for 1 player exceeds $300.00 per player per year! Charitable Donations to the Little Quips are tax deductible and can be sent to:
